A 2012 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that people who consumed 4 to 5.5 ounces of lean beef daily as part of the heart-healthy diet in the Beef in an Optimal Lean Diet (BOLD) study, experienced a 10 percent decline in LDL or “bad” cholesterol as well as a reduction in total cholesterol. These results were similar to what has been observed for the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. The DASH diet is a premier heart-healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein, extensively studied in both observational as well as clinical trials. Part of this study shows that half of the fatty acids in a serving of beef are heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, the same type found in olive oil. In addition, nearly one-third of the saturated fat in beef is stearic acid, a fatty acid shown to have neutral effects on cholesterol levels.


There are papers coming out frequently, especially in Europe, debating the actual role of LDL cholesterol on heart disease. Remember that one of the top selling medications in the world are statin drugs. You can't trust the pharmaceutical industry to ever promote anything that goes against their cash cow.


Some studies have found that eating beef is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety also.
